Caesar goes Camping!

Early September 2003, Caesar enjoyed his first weekend camping! Caesar had watched with interest as the new tent was erected in the garden to check it over, and as the bags were packed in readiness for the weekend. As soon as his food bowls and food were packed he relaxed, realising that this meant he was coming too!

The Location: Longleat, Wiltshire
The Occasion: Chippenham Dog Club Agility Show
The Reason: To help at The Dogs for the Disabled Stand,
to raise money and awareness of the charity

Longleat was a beautiful setting for the event, and with the Safari Park and other attractions there was plenty to see apart from the agility show. With more than 900 acres of landscaped parkland and a further 8,000 acres of farmland, woodland and lakes, Longleat itself is a huge estate.
Longleat must surely be the only campsite in Britain where you can hear lions roar at night!

We were delighted to be able to help Dogs for the Disabled raise their profile at the
Chippenham Agility Club Championship & Open Agility Show,
there were approximately 3,000 dogs and 650 camping units on site, and it was wonderful to be able to watch such high standard agilty.

At first, Caesar was a little wary of the Lilo (air bed) that I had taken to sleep on. However, when the lions woke us at 5.55am on the first morning with their roars (which were so loud you would have thought they were right outside our tent), he suddenly forgot about being scared of the Lilo and leapt right onto it!

We were joined at Longleat by Mel & Penny (Caesars' 1/2 sister), and as usual the two dogs enjoyed working and playing together, enjoying some quality time off.

Our first weekend camping was enormously enjoyable and went very well. In the past I have camped extensively in Europe, but had not ever thought it would be possible again after my accident, so in a way the weekend was a big first for both Caesar and I. I have no doubt that it would never have been possible without the confidence Caesar has given me, and the encouragement of great friends.
Special thanks to Gerald & Maureen and Mel & John for making the weekend such fun ... not forgetting Caesar & Penny of course ;o)
Now that we have the camping bug, who knows where we shall be off to next!
Watch this space!
