Caesars' visit to Jersey
Early May, 2004 Wendy, Caesar and Wendys' cousin Caroline visited Jersey in The Channel Islands as a birthday treat for Wendy & Caroline.
To make the most of our time in Jersey, we decided to travel by air, rather than a much longer sea journey.
How exciting! This was Caesars' first flight.

Our nearest airport is Bournemouth, but annoyingly, the airline that runs from there to Jersey refused to take Caesar, in spite of his status as a Registered Assistance Dog.
A little more research, and a couple of phone calls later, we discovered that Flybe, who fly from Southampton to Jersey were perfectly happy to take Caesar, and allow him to travel in the passenger cabin, so that he could be with Wendy at all times.
As you can see, Jersey is the most southerly tip of the British Isles, just off the coast of France, and Caesar was able to travel there without needing his Pet Passport. |
On the outbound journey, the plane was not fully booked, so they were able to leave the seat adjacent to Wendy vacant, which gave Caesar more space on the floor.

Once in Jersey we visited the main town St Helier for some all important tax free shopping!
We spent some time in Liberation Square...
Liberation Square (as seen here) was opened by Prince Charles on the 9th May 1995 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Occupation. The design of the square signifies freedom, with the centrepiece being a sculpture by Philip Jackson.
It was on the 8th May 1945 Winston Churchill declared to the world that the war in Europe was over and that the German High Command had surrendered to the allies, he also added that the following day, 9th May 1945 “Our Dear Channel Islands will be liberated”, thus ending four and half years of German occupation.
To the many thousands of Channel Islanders who had endured so much at the hands of the German invaders, these were the words that they had longed to hear, and from that day, 9th May has always been celebrated throughout the Islands as Liberation Day.
The Channel Islands were the only British territory to be occupied by the Germans during The Second World War.
More information is available from the Occupation Memorial website.

Jersey Pottery in Gorey village was a perfect place to stop for lunch and more shopping!
Aaaaaaaaaaaah! The sea air!
Corbiere Lighthouse
All too soon, it was time to head back to the airport.
Caesar counldn't take his eyes away from the luggage conveyor belts, but was happy to board the plane with Caroline while Wendy waited for a lift on board.

On the way home we were afforded some superb views, like this one of the other Channel Islands, Guernsey (centre of picture), Herm and Sark. |
On the return trip, the plane was full, so Caesar had to make the most of the floor space between Wendy & Caroline. He still appeared comfortable and it was only a short flight.
Many thanks Flybe, you succeeded when others wouldn't even try!
