Caesar, Canine Conference Delegate! | Early October 2004, Caesar and I took a trip to Scotland, all the more exciting as neither of us had been there before, we flew rather than spend nine or ten hours on a train, and also Scotland happens to be the ancestral home of the Golden Retriever.
We flew from Southampton to Glasgow with Flybe, the flight taking about 80 minutes.
We were in Glasgow to attend the 10th triennial conference of the International Association of Human Animal Interaction Organisations (IAHAIO) hosted by the Society of Companion Animal Studies (SCAS), but extended our stay in order to see more of the city and surrounding area.
Happily, we also found time before the conference began to visit the Pets At Home store in Glasgow. Pets at Home is a particular favourite of Caesars', and he just HAD to have a new duck! All the Pets At Home stores fundraise for Dogs for the Disabled, so it was super to be able to visit the Glasgow store and thank the staff personally for all their hard work for the charity. |

The conference was three days of intensive lectures and talks given by some of the world leaders in the field of human/animal interactions, and was fascinating.
We also enjoyed some of the arena demonstrations, particularly the one on duck herding!
There was an excellent social programme too, and we both enjoyed making many new friends from around the world. Caesar was on a mission to secure as many cuddles as he could in a day! Naturally, all the delegates having left their own animals at home were happy to oblige! This was a conference on the human / animal bond after all!
